Introduction:
The No.6 Inner Wheel District was founded on the 13th March 1934. However, when it became too large, it was divided. The Clubs were divided to form the new District 6; five Clubs were transferred to District 10, and the remaining Clubs in Staffordshire and Shropshire formed the new District 21 on the 1st July 1972.
The Inner Wheel Clubs of Wolverhampton, Stoke-on-Trent Club (formerly North Staffs) and Walsall, which were amongst the original 79 Clubs which formed the Association, were retained. These Clubs were all given number 79 on their Charters. After this, Clubs were numbered as they were formed.
When the original District No. 6 was divided, the chain of office was retained by the new District No. 6, along with the bell and lectern as they already had the number 6 on them.

District 21 - Banner
The idea of producing a District banner came from Past District Chairman Doreen Pike, following her visit to the Leicester Assembly in 2000, when she was District Editor. Several Districts already had banners and she thought that it would be a good idea for District 21 to have one. The proposal was put to the clubs and it was very readily agreed that each club would produce an embroidered panel that depicted their particular town or area. They were given a size to work to and every club took part in the project. When all the panels had been completed, she took them to her sewing class. With a little help from the teacher she made the backing for the banner and proceeded to lay the pictures out and sew them on. All of the panels were skilfully and beautifully made, and highly imaginative. Unfortunately, several of the clubs have since closed. On its completion, Doreen signed the bottom of the banner. The banner is kept by the District Chairman and is given pride of place at Inner Wheel meetings. |
